St. Mary’s Odibo Mission is nominated to be a Heritage Site because of its aesthetics, cultural, historical and social importance. The aesthetics of the Anglican tradition and socio-cultural aspects of St Mary’s Odibo Mission have drawn their characteristics from its establishment (the thinking and planning that went into establishing the Mission); its location (the Angolan-Namibian border and the Oshiwambo speaking population); the role it played during the struggle of liberation; as well as the caliber of the people who had the good fortune to work and be served by this Organisation. That means, all Mission infrastructure and facilities, the programmes as well as the biographical information and professional careers/vocations of the people who worked within its walls have stories to tell regarding the Mission life, in addition to its contribution and influence on the history and socio-economic development of Namibia.Read more...
